SAFETY

...

  • When you call for assistance, you need to let us know if you have tested positive to the virus or believe there's a chance you have it, so we can assist in the best and safest way.
  • When assisting you at the roadside, our technicians follow state health guidelines at all times. This includes using masks, hand sanitiser before and after each job, keeping a distance of 1.5m from customers, and asking customers to remain in their vehicle if safe and appropriate.
  • We ask you to remain in the vehicle if possible, or else to wear a mask and keep a distance of 1.5m, while our technicians attend your vehicle.
  • Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not able to transport customers in tow trucks, and you may need to make alternative travel arrangements.
  • We may be unable to provide immediate roadside assistance for customers who are in quarantine. In this event, we will ensure you get transport home if needed, and that your vehicle is tended to in accordance with guidelines, so that everyone remains safe.

  • Know that help is on the way. We prioritise these jobs and ensure a technician will be with you as quickly as possible.
  • Stay calm and safe, keep your child or pet reassured and engaged.
  • Call 000 if your child's life is in danger or the situation is escalating. The roadside assist technician will still come to help even if you call triple zero.

  • Activate your hazard lights, pull over as far as you can, stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on. Wait for help to arrive.
  • If you've broken down on a freeway or a dangerous location, you will typically be towed to safety before we attempt to assist you, e.g. change a tyre, to ensure the safety of the technician and other motorists.

Wherever you breakdown

  • Activate your hazard lights.
  • Position your vehicle as far away from traffic as you can – pull over in a shoulder or breakdown lane if possible.
  • If it is safe to do so, stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on.
  • If you have to get out of the vehicle, leave your vehicle from the safest side, away from the traffic.
  • Try to avoid crossing the road.
  • Stand clear of the road if it is safe to do so.
  • If your tyre is flat, drive to a safe spot away from the traffic if possible.

On freeways, motorways or country roads

  • Stay calm, help may take longer to arrive on these roads.
  • Country roads can be narrow, for your safety move as far off the road as possible and activate your hazard lights.

In tunnels

  • Stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on.
  • Stay calm, major tunnels are constantly monitored and operators will send help. Listen to your radio for instructions from the tunnel operator.

BATTERIES

  • All batteries degrade over time, and in some cases, this can occur very quickly.
  • In most cases, a flat battery needs to be replaced or charged overnight (‘bench charge’).
  • Replacing your battery is generally the most convenient way of ensuring your vehicle is good to go. This is because a short drive will typically not charge the battery enough, so you may find it goes flat again the next time you go to drive your car.
  • Feel free to discuss this with the technician who comes to assist you.

  • A ‘panel reset’ is when your vehicle’s electrical systems need to be ‘rebooted’.
  • Your vehicle may require a reset if the battery was completely dead or was replaced. When a battery goes completely flat or has been replaced it can cause the vehicle’s infotainment system and electricals to stop working.
  • To reset all the electrical systems, the vehicle needs to be plugged in to a diagnostic machine.
  • Panel resets are not covered by your roadside assist policy. Your usual mechanic or dealership can assist – you’ll need to contact them separately.

TYRES

  • The technician can change your tyre, using your spare tyre and your vehicle’s jack equipment, as long as it’s not a self-inflating or foam kit. If you do not have the appropriate jack in your vehicle or spare tyre, be sure to let us know.
  • We do not supply new tyres, nor can we fit tyres at the roadside.

  • A lock nut is an anti-theft wheel nut; easily identified as it will look unique compared to the other wheel nuts on the wheel. If you are unsure, you can ask us. You must have the lock nut socket (‘key’), as technicians don’t carry these sockets with them. If you have the socket, then you can be assisted as usual.
  • If you don’t have the lock nut socket, then your vehicle will be towed to the nearest tyre repairer.

  • We will tow your vehicle to the nearest tyre repairer.
  • If you do not wish to be towed, we can refer you to a tyre repairer, such as MyCar or Road Runner Tyres.

TOWING

  • Generally, we will tow your vehicle to the nearest repairer without cost, within the limits of your policy.

OUT OF FUEL

...

  • Generally, the technician who comes to help you will give your vehicle enough fuel to get to the nearest petrol station.
  • If you've run out of fuel on a freeway or a dangerous location, you will typically be towed to the nearest petrol station instead of filling the car up at the roadside, to ensure the safety of our technician and other motorists.
